Calm Thoughts by Sharon

Sharon Cole

My day was a disaster!

Everyone’s busy in the real estate office… We're short-handed, the administrator out today, and I'm busy doing very necessary office work. Then I get unexpected clients! OK. Showing property hot and sweaty!

Oh, No!! I forgot a very important appointment! I’m not prepared!!

It’s a video recording. I bare my soul, but since I’m not prepared, I stumble through it. As someone who strives for perfection, how awkward and humbling (or humiliating) this was.

Afterward, I gather myself together. I tell myself to just get on with the things I need to finish up. I cannot give in and let myself go across the street to Ouachita Coffee Shop! There is no telling how my body (and mind) would react after that!

I finally get home and I'm so tired. I don't feel up to cooking! But, the veggies are already cut for an awesome new recipe. "Ugh, I don't want to do this today!" I think to myself. But, those veggies have been cut and ready for me since Monday!!

OK… I CAN DO THIS!

Well, believe it or not, the dinner was fantastic. It helped give me courage for what I would do the very next morning: MAKE A LIST!

I made a list of everything I want to accomplish in the next few months. I wrote down everything I’m stressed about that seems to be going backward instead of forward. I number each goal from one to five according to priority level.

I categorize each goal: Real Estate, Coaching, Personal, and “Other”.

Then, with each goal, I list the various challenges that goal will have, so I can see where my weaknesses are:

  • Time
  • Knowledge
  • Energy
  • Thought
  • Money
  • Courage
  • Time to Think
  • Finding a person to help with the details.

Some goals had several challenges, so I listed them all. From examining my lists, it looks like I need to work on my Time and Energy, and Courage, more than other obstacles. So I need to eat well, rest well, and keep my calendar schedule up to date, with a personal mandate to review it every morning and every evening, as a ritual.

I also need to “step out,” instead of waiting for my courage to catch up with me, and move forward on some things on my list.

This is new to me—working on Coaching at the same time as Real Estate. It’s a challenge. But I can be in charge of my life, and enjoy it!

This is calming. Now on to new challenges. Calmly in charge.

Have a calm week, and let me know if I can add calm to your chaos!

Until Next Time,

Sharon
