Sharon J Cole
Functional Medicine Health Coach
I set up a table at our local Realtor Expo this week, along with several businesses and professionals in the area. They put on a great event.
While I was there, it occurred to me—most people probably don’t even know exactly what I do.

Functional Medicine doctors use their “detective” skills and technology to help solve your health mysteries, to get to the source of your symptoms.
Their goal is not to just make your symptoms go away. Their goal is to get to the source of the symptoms, and fix the actual real problem. Then the symptoms fade away.
Functional Medicine doctors use:
● Your history—everything about your history that they can learn from you. (Before I could see the doctor at my initial visit, my application was 31 pages long—but when I got there, they actually knew all about me, and brought up several things about me—it wasn’t just filling out papers for their records)
● Your habits
● Your eating
● Your exercise
● Your symptoms, along with every other random symptom or problem you have
● Your sleep practices
● An examination of your relationships in your life
● Any habit or way of living that might allow toxins into your life.
● Plus anything else that might contribute to the way your body and mind are behaving.
● They use lab work of different kinds (at my initial visit, I gave 14 vials of blood).
I’m not a Functional Medicine Doctor. I don’t diagnose, or treat, or even recommend.
My training is in Functional Medicine Coaching.
I had health issues for several years, and traditional doctors finally told me there was no known cause, and no cure. They did hint to me that it could be autoimmune-related. And this gave me the exact clue I needed.
I didn’t accept the “no cure” words.
I did LOTS of research, on my own. And finally discovered Functional Medicine doctors.
These doctors are just like your traditional doctor, but have additional education and training in the connection of our food and lifestyle, to our illnesses.
Whether you have aches and pains, high blood pressure, diabetes, psoriasis, dementia, eczema, heart disease, or dementia, these things didn’t just jump on you.
Research is showing that chronic disease in our body takes from 7 to 15 years before showing symptoms—with causes from the buildup of toxins we expose ourselves to, to the food we eat, the sleep we get, and many other things.
The changes we make give us control. And the symptoms may not go away immediately, but usually even small changes will give you results you can see right away.

In my search for wellness, and for a doctor I could trust, I found a doctor in Austin, Texas, who specialized in autoimmune. I went there. (Amy Myers, MD—sadly now practicing only in research and training)
Functional Medicine doctors have the ability to prescribe and treat the same as traditional doctors, but I got no prescription. They helped me change my foods, and my lifestyle habits. Within 2 ½ months, my symptoms melted away. After over 5 years of searching for answers.
From this experience, I decided maybe I could help guide people toward health, and away from illness and disease—without going through years of suffering through “the unknown”.
***************
I graduated from the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy in 2019, and slowly began my coaching career, with direct one-on-one coaching, and with group coaching sessions.
The group sessions are more affordable, and the one-on-one sessions are more in-depth for specific health problems. The group sessions are usually based on one specific topic; the individual sessions go strictly by what you want a resolution to.
In our group sessions we cover every subject imaginable, from sugar to stocking your kitchen and pantry to brain health to oils and fat; we have occasional guest speakers; and we have very relaxed and interactive, helpful sessions. We typically have five to ten people in the group.
In my one-on-one sessions, I do collect as much information as I can from our conversations.
I encourage you to believe that the biggest part of your health is in your control.
I do not tell my clients what to eat;
I don’t tell them how to live their life;
I don’t push for anyone to think a certain way;
I don’t recommend certain diets.
After we get started, one of the first things I want to know is how you would like your life to be. What you’d want your life to look like… to feel like…
We talk about different paths to travel, to go toward that.
Some people have a hard time envisioning this. I help them to see what they truly want.
● You choose your destination—where you’d like to go.
● You choose the path you’d like to follow to get there.
● You choose what changes you’d like to make, and
● You choose where and how, and when you’d like to start.
● If any of your decisions don’t feel right later on, we take another look and make some tweaks to your plan, or totally change your plan—all, your choice.
We make progress… one small victory after another. Changes happen in your health and in your life. You feel better. You get excited. You choose more changes to make… you experience more success. Your life changes. The view of your life changes. You are better. And so is your life.
You can experience better health. On your own. And I can help you figure out your path, and your steps. You have the Power.
I believe our lives are meant to be happy, and enjoyable (not perfect). I believe we were meant to succeed in our worthy goals.
I’m sharing a list of some of the doctors and researchers that I typically follow. This list is not extensive, but these people I have learned to trust.
If you’d like for me to help you find a doctor, get in touch with me and we’ll find one for you. One hurdle that comes up, in seeing a Functional Medicine doctor, is the cost.
These doctors have to be creative in ways to be paid, because insurance considers this type of medicine as non-traditional, and typically doesn’t pay them as they pay a traditional doctor. I’m hoping that this will be changing soon.
If you’d like for me to help you with your health journey, we can make that journey. Just contact me. I’m ready to help you.
Remember, you truly can change your health, and your life!
Thank you for reading. I hope to see you and be able to help you.
