Well, Time’s up. I’ve missed you.
I kept thinking things I wanted to tell you. So I’ll just bring you up to date a little this week.
We don’t typically get much snow here. I do remember when I was a kid, playing in the snow, and having plastic bread sacks on our feet to keep them dry. Well… they didn’t keep my feet dry very long, and I remember it didn’t take long to get really cold!
We had a pretty-much record snowfall here last week. I’ve never loved the snow. I do love to watch it fall, and see how beautiful it is—from inside the house. But I don’t remember really enjoying being out in it very much.
This year, I had already decided I was going to overrule myself, and enjoy the winter. Then we had this snow, which was so absolutely beautiful, and peaceful; and I kept thinking how fun it might be to be out in it.
So, since I’ve been walking most days, through our pasture, I decided I wanted to try it, in the snow. Well, I knew my husband wouldn’t think it was wise for me… so I waited until he left to feed the cattle, gathered my courage, and bundled up.
I have warm outdoor clothes from when we used to do auctions for people. (I’ve stood out in the sleet writing tickets before, thinking “where else in the whole world could this be happening”) So I put on layers, put on my best wind protection, and out I went!
Even though the sun was shining, it was very cold and very windy. I wasn’t going to walk far, because I felt a little guilty, knowing that my husband (nor my kids) probably wouldn’t be too happy with me walking in a foot of snow.
But here I was, doing it, enjoying it, and ABLE to do it with no problems at all! It made me feel SOOO good!
So, I thought, before I get very far, why not make a snow angel In that beautiful smooth snow! I tried to remember if I had ever done that. Nope. I don’t think I ever have. Well, surely if I do… I could get up… in that deep snow…? Surely I could.
I found the perfect spot, turned my back to the roadway, and fell backwards into the smooth, soft snow. Made the angel wings with my arms and legs. OK. I did it. Now… getting up…
There’s nothing to do here but laugh. I had to laugh while I was wrestling with myself, getting up. It was pretty hilarious, and you can see the evidence in the picture. But… hey! I did it! I wasn’t going to let anyone see the picture, but it was too funny to not share!
So the next day, I walked again. I still didn’t walk my usual 1 ½ mile distance, but it didn’t matter. It was a great feeling to overcome the thought (that I had held for many, many years) that it was “too cold” to go outside; that “it wouldn’t be a very safe thing for me to do”.
I don’t think I slipped once, and I didn’t get cold, and my feet were warm and dry. And I SO enjoyed it!

In my life, years past, when I was raising my children, when it got so cold and bad, many times the ice on the electric lines would break the lines and we had no electricity.
When the electricity went out, that meant the well pump wouldn’t work, and so it would freeze …which meant we had no water…. This happened just about every year, sometimes more often.
Those memories have been very deep-seated, and are possibly part of the reason I have dreaded bad winter weather. I’m so glad I went outside this past week! What a Great Step!
This shows plainly to me that we put ourselves in our own prisons sometimes. Without even knowing it. Next time it snows, I’m planning on being out in it, for sure.

After the snow, then there was cold, cold, cold! We’ve been in single digits at night. Well, I thought, ok…I want to enjoy another fire in the fireplace. But we used all our wood from the porch.
Well, I can ask my husband to let the calves go a bit (which he sure wouldn’t want to do in this cold), or I can put on my warm clothes and carry wood myself!
So that’s what I did. It’s a pretty good little distance… I got tired and I only carried two loads. So I decided that would be a good exercise for me each day. So that’s what I’m going to do. Then I can have a fire anytime I want one! And I gain the exercise!

There are some other things I’m working on changing and improving, personally. One important thing to remember… when you’re working on making changes, don’t try to do everything at once. Go ahead and decide all the things you want to change, but only attempt one or two at a time.
Make a list of the things you want to decide to change. Then pick one thing to work on. Then choose 3-4 things you will need to do to be victorious with that goal. Then number those by importance. Then start with Number 1. Now, Take Action.

I had an in-person group coaching class over the weekend. I usually have between 5 and 10. It was really cold, but 6 attended.
It was the first time I’ve used slides, but it went well, and the people there seemed to enjoy it, and enjoyed the food, and at the end, said they were ready to begin work toward their life-changing journey.
These classes always do my heart good. I always sleep good the night after one of these classes.

Oh… and I had a brand new great grandbaby last week. I haven’t seen him yet!
And I had a mini-reunion with a group of ladies I worked with probably 30 years ago. It was a great time!
