I Can’t… But Why Not?

Is there a solution for that?

Regardless of what it involves?

          A conversation you’d like to have with someone…

          Something you’d like to learn to do…

A habit you want to change…

          Something you want to save your money to buy…

          A future-self you’d like to “be”…

          A job you’d like to apply for…

          Overcome the stress…

          Reach that goal…

We have all sorts of “reasons” we can’t…

What if we spent some time dreaming up reasons we CAN.

Do you think that would make a difference?

WHY do you feel you “can’t”?

Think about it.

You may feel you’re not strong enough;

You may feel you have a lack of funds or resources;

You may have fear;

You may just carry doubt, or lack of faith;

You may feel weak;

You may feel like you are not in control of your life.

We all have stress; we all feel helpless or hopeless at times.  Our relationships get out of whack sometimes.  Money gets short.  Sometimes it’s just easy to say, “I can’t”, regardless of the hurdle.

Sometimes doors open easily and we can just walk through, and know which way to go.  Sometimes… Not.  Sometimes doors get slammed in our face.  We can’t tell which way to go.  In that case… I wonder what I could experience on the other side… something I’ve been stopped from seeing…

What if we take these experiences—any of them—and use it to just feel what’s there, and think what we’re missing.  Is it something we would want, on the other side of that door?

Then think… What do I really want?  And take the experience and either try that door again with a courageous frame of mind, or take the experience and let it be used to try a new direction.

Don’t be defeated.  Use what you have.  Ask for wisdom; and be courageous if you feel what’s on the other side of that door is what you want in your life.  Take your life, and “Go for it!”

Even the strongest trees bend in the strong winds.

And it’s ok (it’s GOOD!) to ask for support or help when life feels heavy.

Just as a side note, if your reason you feel “you can’t” is fear, there are a few solid reasons your body and mind would suffer.

1.     Fear causes Stress.

2.     Chronic fear activates the stress response—it raises cortisol, blood pressure, and inflammation.

3.     Constant stress suppresses immunity.  It disrupts hormones, slows your digestion, and fuels disease.

4.     Studies show over 75% of all doctor visits are linked to stress-related conditions.

If you set your fear aside, those things can heal.  How can you do that?  You have to replace those feelings of fear.

The best way is to replace it with trust—faith—in God.  We are designed for peace.

********************

When we were kids at home, and if we ever said “I can’t”, if our daddy heard us, the immediate answer was, “Can’t never could do nothing”.  Oh, and, “He died before he tried!”  And that was the end of it.  If we wanted something, “Can’t” just wasn’t an option.  He would not help us get it done.  Once he said those words, it was simply up to us what we wanted.

I didn’t realize until I was “older” that this was his way of teaching us to persevere—to test ourselves as to what we really wanted, and how bad we wanted it.  No excuses were valid.  We either wanted it and went for it, or the decision was automatic—we didn’t really want it.

It took me most of my life to realize what a valuable lesson that was.  I just thought at the time, how strict (and mean-acting) he was to us.

He never really showed affection to us, and I didn’t understand then, but in his stern-ness he was giving us great gifts.

I’m not sure what he had to overcome in his life because he talked very little about any hurdles he had, but I know they must’ve formed his strength to move forward in spite of great struggles.

*******************

I’m here today to tell you, You CAN do it!  It doesn’t matter much what it is you want; if you want it, there are are few things that count:

1.     Think of ways to get around the hurdles

2.     Think of more ways to get through

3.     What steps would it take?  Write out steps it would take to get started

4.     Start with one step.

5.     It feels good! Take the next step.  You’re on your way! You CAN do it!

And remember.. YOU CAN!!  Because Can’t never could do anything… and he died before he tried!

It may not be easy, but it’s simple.  And you’re on your way.  It won’t be a straight line.  But that’s ok.  You’re on your way.

Thank you for reading, and if you need help, I can help you get there.  Together, we can find that path, and make our way through the brier patches and boulders.
